Neil Lennon hails Nick Hammond for superb Celtic transfer work this summer
Neil Lennon has saluted Nick Hammond for the transfer work he’s done at Celtic this summer after the arrival of Shane Duffy, speaking to the official club website.
Duffy was officially announced as Lennon’s fifth signing of the transfer window following deals for Mohamed Elyounoussi, Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti and David Turnbull.
All five of these players are capable of being immediate starters at Scottish Premiership level and it’s been an ambitious outlay on the club’s part, with three of them signing on a permanent basis.
Lennon is certainly getting the backing of the money men at Celtic Park.
He’s now saluted the work done by the club’s recruitment man, Head of Football Operations Hammond.
The manager told CelticFC.net: “This is a real coup for the Club. From the off, Shane wanted to come to Celtic and we are delighted we have been able to fend off English Premier League interest.
“We are delighted with Shane’s decision to come and I am delighted with the business which Nick Hammond and the Board have done, not only in bringing Shane to Celtic, but throughout the window.
“We can’t wait to get Shane involved in the squad as we look to the many challenges ahead.”
Celtic really need to get the signings right this summer with so much on the line domestically over the next nine months.
Hammond is working in a difficult market but has managed to leverage connections in England to bring in some experienced internationals at a price that suits Celtic.
That’s no mean feat, especially in an age of pandemic, so Lennon is quite right to tip his hat.
It’s also a nice show of club unity after a difficult European result last week.
No-one can deny that has damaged the club but with the capture of Duffy, we’ve shown we can still bring in the players needed to sustain trophy success.
All seems to be well behind the scenes when it comes to Lennon’s relationship with the other senior men at Celtic.
