Celtic’s continuing search for a right-back doesn’t look to have any end in sight. The Hoops had most recently hoped to sign Tommy Smith, but the Huddersfield player has reportedly decided to join Stoke.
There is one player that would seem an ideal candidate for right-back, that Celtic know all about, but as yet they have not made a move for the player – Kilmarnock’s Stephen O’Donnell.
No contact reportedly made with club
A recent report in the Daily Record claimed that O’Donnell was ‘on the radar’ of Celtic, but as yet no contact had been made with Kilmarnock.
It has to be asked why haven’t the Hoops made a move for the player? He was excellent for a Kilmarnock side that finished third in the Premiership last season, making 43 appearances.
Perhaps it is because the player is 27-years-old, and therefore has no resale value. But then recent signing Christopher Jullien is the same age.
Perhaps manager isn’t a fan of player?
It is a mystery why Celtic haven’t made a move for O’Donnell so far in the transfer window. Maybe it is just as simple as Neil Lennon not being a fan of the player.
But if, as reported he is on the club’s ‘radar’, that is unlikely to be the case.
However, as the situation to bring in a new right-back gets more desperate, we may finally see Celtic make a move for O’Donnell.
