Oliver Abildgaard may not have made a huge impression on Celtic, but it seems the club and the support have made one on him.

Abildgaard has joined Serie A side Hellas Verona until the end of the season after the Bhoys agreed to rip up his short-term contract.

The Danish midfielder has released a heartfelt message on Instagram tonight, stating: “It all comes to an end, before it even started. Despite my short period of time in the club, I have witnessed the truly special atmosphere at paradise, the incredible support from our fans and the beautiful values this club is based on.

“I want to express my gratitude to Celtic for, amongst other things, getting me back on track physically and fully fit to start my next adventure.

“Thanks for all the beautiful memories you have given me. That I will carry with me forever. I wish all the best of luck to everyone connected to the club.”

Joe Hart replied, stating: “Good luck big man.”

Liel Abada also chimed in to say: “Good luck bro.”

Carl Starfelt meanwhile responded with a series of love heart emojis.

Abildgaard didn’t make a single start for the Bhoys but did appear off the bench on nine occasions, including in the UEFA Champions League.

In truth, his days at Celtic have been numbered for a while. It became apparent he wouldn’t have a long-term future at the club when captain Callum McGregor was out for a lengthy spell through injury and Abildgaard wasn’t fancied to fill in.

He’ll now get the chance to feature in one of Europe’s bigger leagues but faces a big task to help Hellas Verona stay clear of relegation.

All the best Oliver!
