Celtic summer transfer target Omar Elabdellaoui appears to be intent on staying at Greek side Olympiacos.
The Hoops were most recently linked with a move for Elabdellaoui in the 17th August print edition of The Scottish Daily Mail (back page).
Journalist Stephen McGowan reported we were keen on a £4m deal for the player.
However, in a tweet last night after Olympiacos’ victory over Krasnodar in the play-off round of the UEFA Champions League, the right-back displayed he is eager to take part in the group stages of the competition with his team.
Obviously it effectively rules out a move to the Hoops in the final week of the summer transfer window.
How serious our interest was is unknown, but given The Scottish Daily Mail led with it for a back page splash, they were clearly confident of their sources.
What now for Celtic?
Celtic have quickly moved on to other right-backs this week, having just announced the capture of Moritz Bauer on a season-long loan from Stoke City.
He’ll now support and provide competition for fellow new signing Hatem Abd Elhamed, who is still settling into life in Glasgow.
We also have Kristoffer Ajer available on the right flank, but he best serves us in the centre of defence.
As well as a left-back, we also arguably need additional quality and depth at centre-back and on the left wing. Currently our squad is ill-equipped for a long campaign that will hopefully see us go deep in a number of competitions.
Communication from the club with regards to transfers hasn’t been very helpful in recent days. Lennon attracted the ire of supporters after suggesting we may have two or three quality players in the door early this week.
Hopefully we have a few recruitment tricks up our sleeve, like the Bauer signing, before the deadline expires on Monday.
