It was not really a surprise to see Celtic recall Ewan Henderson from his loan spell at Ross County. The attacking midfielder only made 10 appearances for the Dingwall side.

You might imagine that Celtic would be looking to send the player out on loan once more, as he has returned before the end of the transfer window.

However, that will not be possible, as he has already played for two clubs this season. He played one minute of Celtic’s 2-1 win over FK Sarajevo at the start of the season.

Cannot go out on loan again this season

As the three club rule is in place, Henderson cannot go out on loan again this season, which is probably a blow for the player, as his chances of featuring in the first-team will be limited.

Neil Lennon addressed the situation at his pre-match press conference on Friday, and indicated that he was pleased to have Henderson back.

He’s played for us in a qualifier, so he’ll be around the first-team training, we can’t loan him out to another club. We would’ve liked him to play more games but it’s good to see him back, and he enjoyed his experience” he said, as quoted by the Hoops Twitter account.

Henderson may end up in a footballing limbo between now and the end of the season. He can’t move to another team, and he probably won’t get much playing time for the first-team.

That means that he won’t play much if any competitive football between January and May. That will be a disappointment to the player, as he would have wanted to play first-team football on loan once more.

Most likely won’t play much competitive football

There are no doubt many teams who would have liked to have taken Henderson on loan for the second half of the season, but it is not to be.

That one minute Henderson played against Sarajevo has proved to be quite costly.

He will have to work extra hard in training to catch the eye of Neil Lennon and make the first-team squad, like he did last season.

As he is only 19, time is still on Henderson’s side. However, the situation this season is unfortunate for the player.
