Photo: Daizen Maeda at airport - on his way to Celtic after announcement
Daizen Maeda has been photographed at an airport in Japan before making his way to the UK and joining up with his Celtic teammates.
Maeda has signed on an initial loan with a compulsory purchase option, meaning he’s committed his long-term future to the Bhoys.
Yokohama F.Marinos goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka was on hand to send him off before his travels, posting a rather fashionable looking Maeda with his luggage before heading through customs on his Instagram stories, earlier today.
It’s unclear what kind of process Celtic will have to go through before Maeda can join up with the squad, but there is plenty of time to get him settled into Lennoxtown. The Bhoys’ next match isn’t until January 17th at home to Hibernian.
Maeda will have a good chance of starting games immediately for Celtic given his goalscoring exploits in Japan throughout 2021. With 23 goals in the J1-League, he won the golden boot.
He’s unlikely to take too long to get up to speed, if he’s anything like his compatriot Kyogo Furuhashi, who settled into life in Glasgow rather quickly indeed.
