Tottenham Hotspur have not made any advances towards Cameron Carter-Vickers about making a switch away from Celtic, despite reports over the weekend suggesting they are keen.

The Sunday People [25/06 print edition, page 61] reported that Carter-Vickers was one of the players being looked at by Ange Postecoglou this summer, which was then subsequently picked up a re-reported by a number of other outlets.

American journalist Larry Henry Jr, who has been close to Carter-Vickers’ situation since before he signed for Celtic and who has consistently provided accurate updates, cites sources close to the player that no offers from Spurs have been made apparent.

Further to that, Henry Jr updated on social media that despite likely interest in his services from elsewhere, Carter-Vickers is focused on rehabbing from his knee surgery and preparing for his third season in Glasgow.

He said, on Twitter: “Despite previous reports, there have been no offers made from Tottenham to Celtic for #USMNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, a source close to the player confirmed. Carter-Vickers is still rehabbing following knee surgery this spring. Was Best XI SPFL selection in 2022-23.

“Certainly will be plenty of interest in CCV after a treble-winning season in Scotland, but he is preparing to be part of Celtic’s season this year.”

This will be a pleasing and reassuring update for any fans worried about a Carter-Vickers exit this summer. Clearly, things can change as we head deeper into the summer transfer window but at this stage, it seems the defender only has the Bhoys on his mind.

Retaining the United States international will be seen as a key mission this summer as the club prepares to maintain domestic dominance and look to be competitive in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

Carter-Vickers has been a rock for Celtic. The defensive line is far more secure and settled with him in it. Having made 84 appearances already, everyone is hoping the 25-year-old can push on to make many more under Brendan Rodgers.

I suspect a lot more noise around the big defender is likely to be on the way over the coming weeks and months, but there’s not much to take note of at this point. We look forward to his return!
