Celtic are ramping up their transfer activity with a couple of weeks of the window remaining as supporters wait on tenterhooks for incomings.

Yesterday, Adam Idah became the Bhoys’ fourth capture of the summer. He joins Kasper Schmeichel, Viljami Sinisalo and Paulo Bernardo at the club, and more additions are set to follow.

Midfield is believed to be an area where bodies will be added. Reports suggest that Celtic have Augsburg’s Arne Engels on the radar as one of their top targets before the transfer deadline.

Wataru Endo of Liverpool has also been mentioned. However, you get the impression he may be a difficult man to land amid his transfer valuation of £15 million.

Nevertheless, Brendan Rodgers looks to have the engine room in his thoughts, and new developments signal that he could be about to turn to the Scottish domestic scene for talent.

Celtic expected to submit Luke McCowan offer

According to The Scottish Sun, Dundee expect Celtic to come forward with an offer for Luke McCowan, who is also attracting interest from Hibernian this month.

David Gray’s side recently saw a £750,000 bid turfed out for the Greenock-born man and the Bhoys are now expected to test the Dark Blues’ resolve regarding their club captain.

Dundee are believed to want £1 million for his services. He has started the new campaign in fine form, scoring three goals and four assists in seven appearances across all competitions.

The outlet also re-iterate claims that Celtic are interested in Augsburg midfielder Engels, so there could be potential for two midfielders to arrive in Glasgow’s east end this month.

Luke McCowan has been impressive for Dundee

Should he be available for a modest fee, Celtic could land a decent homegrown pick-up for a bargain price to help the squad in their pursuit of domestic dominance and European success.

Last term, he created 59 chances and completed 34 dribbles in the Scottish Premiership for Dundee. The 26-year-old is also a tenacious presence and versatile, operating primarily as a central midfielder but also possessing the capability to play out wide.

Squad options are important for Celtic; you only have to look at the bench of substitutes over the last two games to know there is space for further reinforcements.

McCowan may not have the background of some of the Bhoys’ other targets. Nevertheless, he has worked hard to gain deserved adulation at Dundee and would provide valuable depth in the engine room.
