Days remain before the January transfer window slams shut and Celtic could be running certain deals to the wire.

A certain familiar name could be about to take to the Celtic stage again – van Hooijdonk.

Pierre van Hooijdonk spent a number of fruitful years at Parkhead, but now his son, Sydney, could be about to follow him in his footsteps.

If that deal goes through, then Tam McManus thinks it would ‘excite the Celtic fans’ because Sydney van Hooijdonk has ‘good pedigree’ wherever he has been, as he told PLZ Soccer.

The 23-year-old started his career for NAC Breda, before that road led him to Italy and to Bologna, who are now willing to let him go this month on a loan deal.

With Brendan Rodgers still keen to add players to his squad this month, including in the striker department, then this one can’t be ruled out.

If Celtic can compete from a financial perspective, then you imagine they would have some sort of advantage because of his dad’s past links.

Either way, Tam McManus thinks it would be a tick in the box if the rising Dutch star were to move to Glasgow.

“Van Hooijdonk is someone who has got good pedigree and a good goalscoring record wherever he has been,” said McManus.

“Obviously, a big name to live up to, his father. I think that signing would excite the Celtic fans. They have to get a striker in.”

Remain hopeful

You would imagine the boos after the win over Ross County on Saturday were also down to the frustrations of this window.

Perhaps that will all change by the weekend, with Celtic making the trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen.

If a few faces arrive, a striker and a left-back, added with three points against Aberdeen, then the mood will be a lot different by the time the week is up.
