Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa are two of the teams interested in signing Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton this summer.

As we discussed earlier, Bitton looks set for an exit from the Bhoys after nine trophy-laden years in Glasgow.

Since then The Scottish Sun have reported that he is considering a number of options, including an interest from his homeland Israel.

Reigning champions and favourites to retain their title, Maccabi Haifa, are one of those. While Maccabi Tel Aviv are also keen.

Both teams have already qualified for European competition next season through their league positions, having taken part in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stages this term.

Tel Aviv managed to make it to the knockout round where they were dispatched by PSV Eindhoven. Haifa finished bottom of a tough Group E that included Feyenoord, Union Berlin and Slavia Prague.

It’s easy to understand why they’d be interested in an experienced international like Bitton.

The 30-year-old has played 59 times for Celtic in UEFA competition across the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

While it might be the right time to leave the Bhoys, he still has plenty to offer another team on the continent. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t also have suitors outside of Israel.

It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up!
