Celtic are set to cut their losses on £5m Swiss striker Albian Ajeti, The Scottish Daily Mail has reported today. [19/11 print edition, back page]

Ajeti signed from West Ham in the summer of 2020 as one of Neil Lennon’s big buys to push for ten-in-a-row.

However, alongside other expensive outlays such as Vasilis Barkas, the forward has struggled to cement himself in first-team plans under Lennon or Ange Postecoglou.

Journalist Stephen McGowan writes into today’s Scottish Mail the player is now set for a January exit, despite potentially being included in upcoming match squads due to an injury suffered by Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Celtic are thought to be in the market for another attacker in the new year, with Daizen Maeda heavily linked over the last month.

Ajeti has made 44 appearances in total for the Bhoys, but only 18 of them have come from the start. In that time he’s managed to net just nine goals.

He’s been regularly underwhelming in a Celtic shirt and doesn’t appear to have the right attributes to fit into the manager’s high-tempo, pressing style that has thrilled supporters so far this season.

It could be the best thing for all involved if he moves on. He’s unlikely to be on a low wage at the club given his high transfer fee, so even if it means moving him on loan, it could free up funds for Postecoglou to make more additions.

As always in the manager’s squad, there are opportunities for those who work hard and apply themselves. Even Boli Bolingoli has had minutes under Postecoglou.

However, it increasingly looks like Ajeti is on the road to a Celtic exit.
