Celtic are reportedly interested in bringing South Korean internationalist Cho Gue-sung to the club in the transfer window.

As we slowly approach January, the Hoops transfer business continues to ramp up, with Ange Postecoglou already completing on signing – Yuki Kobayashi.

And a second addition appears to be on the way, with rumours suggesting that a deal to bring Alistair Johnston to the club is all but done.

The Celtic manager has spoken heavily about his plans for the up-and-coming window, suggesting that his recruitment staff are planned and prepared.

Reports in the media stated that the Bhoys would be after a new right-back and striker as the 57-year-old eyes more improvements.

With a right-back appearing to be on the way, many supporters might have been anticipating rumours of a striker target.

And on Wednesday evening, sources at Sun Sport stated that the Hoops had joined the race of clubs interested in signing Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker Cho Gue-sung.

The 24-year-old may not be a familiar name to the Celtic support. However, if you are keeping a close eye on the World Cup in Qatar, you will be aware of the South Korean international.

On Monday afternoon, Gue-sung scored a double for his country in a 3-2 defeat to Ghana, which will have helped put his name on the radar in the transfer market.

The 6ft 2 striker plays his football back in his homeland and is currently contracted to K League 1 side Jeonbuk.

Last campaign, he also had a loan spell at Gimcheon Sangmu, where he moved to complete his mandatory military service before returning to his parent side in the second half of the campaign.

Overall, Cho Gue-sung struck 21 goals in 35 games across all competitions and now finds himself part of the international squad in Qatar, having scored six times in 18 games for his country.

Reports have started to suggest that European interest has arrived in the striker, including Celtic, with Postecoglou aiming to exploit more unknown markets.

The former Socceroos boss will have been aware of the South Korean frontman’s exploits, having faced up against him whilst manager of Yokohama F Marinos in a 2-1 win in the Asian Champions League back in 2020.

So, you would imagine the Celtic manager and recruitment team have done their homework as he looks to bolster the Hoops attacking options.

Ange Postecoglou aims for another new addition after World Cup hint.

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup getting underway, Ange Postecoglou hinted he would be keeping a close eye on a few players at the prestigious tournament.

Of course, Johnston looks to be one of those players. And now the Bhoys appear to be after Cho Gue-sung, who is attracting plenty of interest.

Celtic are likely to face a lot of competition if they hope to sign the striker. However, I am sure Ange Postecoglou will be hoping his success in different markets can play to his advantage.

It certainly looks like it would be another smart pick-up by the club. We will have to wait and see how this one develops in the coming weeks.

For supporters who may want to catch a glimpse of one of our potential January targets, the South Korean international is expected to start in their final group stage game against Portugal tomorrow afternoon.
