Celtic are set to send 20-year-old right-back Anthony Ralston on loan to St Johnstone before the end of the transfer window, The Scottish Sun report.

Ralston has been a regular on the Celtic bench under Neil Lennon and made a substitute appearance against AIK on Thursday.

However, the signing of Moritz Bauer appears to have pushed him further down the pecking order.

Bauer found his way to the bench for today’s match at Ibrox, with Ralston completely absent from the match squad.

Despite a lack of natural options, central defender Kristoffer Ajer has even been preferred to the homegrown talent.

The Sun say that he is now expected in Perth before tomorrow’s deadline, to sign on a temporary basis.

He previously spent time out on loan at Queen’s Park and Dundee United.

A good move for Ralston?

The opportunity to play regular Scottish Premiership should be good for his development. He’s at a critical age and can’t progress when his minutes are so limited at the Hoops.

Ultimately it might mean little with regards to making a breakthrough at Celtic. He hasn’t really shown the kind of improvement that would suggest he can be a key man for us.

However, with players such as Ryan Christie demonstrating no-one can be written off at the club, perhaps he can find the confidence and consistency that proves he deserves another chance.

Either way, here’s hoping it all works out for the youngster.
