Turkish side Besiktas are leading the chase to sign Celtic target Jordon Ibe this summer, The Telegraph reports today.

Ibe is a free agent after leaving Premier League side Bournemouth and has been consistently linked with a move to Celtic Park over the last few months.

The Scottish Sun reported back in March that the Scottish champions were keen on the attacker, while The Mirror reported similarly last month (28/06 print edition, page 74).

However, it appears his future could lie on the continent with Besiktas now favourites for his signature.

Journalist Mike McGrath at The Telegraph also reports that teams in Portugal are eyeing up a move for the winger.

Celtic have already completed a season-long loan deal for Mohamed Elyounoussi this summer but could do with more cover on the flanks.

There are doubts about Mikey Johnston’s ability to play regularly, with Karamoko Dembele still largely untested when the pressure is on in competitive matches.

Marian Shved is still formally at the club but appears to be miles away from providing any kind of viable support to regular James Forrest.

Ibe made 119 appearances in the Premier League with Liverpool and Bournemouth (Transfermarkt), gaining the kind of top-level experience that could be useful at Celtic next season.

He hasn’t been the most productive in terms of goals and assists but now 24, coming into his prime, he may find the Scottish Premiership an easier environment to flourish in.

Will Celtic now make a push to sign him up or will his wage demands as an unattached freebie ultimately price us out of a move?

One to watch over the coming weeks.

In other news, Celtic’s goalkeeping hunt is said to have turned away from Joe Hart to the European market.
