Report: Boli Bolingoli could be days away from Celtic exit
Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli could be on the verge of an exit from the club, Football Insider reports.
The outlet believes that Bolingoli is in talks with Russian Premier League FC Ufa about a loan move abroad after Celtic gave him the green light to pursue a switch.
Bolingoli made two starts for Ange Postecoglou at the start of the season out of necessity but hasn’t featured in a match squad since December even as an unused substitute.
Both Greg Taylor and Liam Scales are ahead of him in the Bhoys pecking order, with Ange no doubt preferring an out-of-position Josip Juranovic to him as well.
The manager made it clear at the end of January that there could be some fringe players moving on from the club even after the Scottish transfer window shut.
Russia’s transfer window shuts on Tuesday, so UFA have until then to complete their business. If it comes off, Bolingoli only has a few days left in Glasgow.
Bolingoli’s time at Celtic hasn’t worked out, to put it mildly. Signed by Neil Lennon from Rapid Vienna in the summer of 2019, he finished that season as a bit-part player.
The subsequent campaign brought controversy with the player making an unauthorised trip to Spain in the midst of the pandemic. Celtic were furious and promptly sent him out on loan to Istanbul Basaksehir, where he played Champions League football.
However, he’s been at Lennoxtown since last summer and moving him off the wage bill would be a good thing for Celtic.
Hopefully, any loan move would have an option to buy for the player, since it’s quite clear he has no long-term future at the Bhoys.
