Report: Bournemouth looking to muscle in on Celtic deal for Ben Davies

Reports that Ben Davies has signed a pre-contract deal with Celtic may have been premature as Bournemouth enter the race.

Sky Sports reported earlier that the defender had put pen-to-paper on a pre-contract agreement.

Conflicting reports have emerged since, the most full-throated of which comes from the Daily Record.

Journalists such as Stephen McGowan and Alison McConnell, who have demonstrated they are well-connected in the past, have also cast doubt on the signing reports.

The Record’s take is that English Championship promotion hopefuls Bournemouth will look to hijack the Celtic offer for Davies with a move of their own.

They’ve already reportedly won the race to sign Ben Pearson from Preston [Sky Sports]. Making a double move for Davies as well isn’t so far-fetched.

Davies is an experienced defender with over 200 appearances across the Championship, League One and League Two.

He’s been a regular in the Preston team this season. His form is good, helping them to six clean sheets in his last 13 appearances.

Celtic are on the hunt for a defender after an injury to Christopher Jullien.

That, coupled with doubt over Kristoffer Ajer and Shane Duffy’s Celtic futures, means we have an urgent need to strengthen the position.

If we can guarantee a bit of quality coming in the door before summer European qualifiers, it would ease the supporters’ minds.

However, it seems we’re not quite there yet. Knowing our luck in the transfer market, let’s not celebrate this one before the Bhoys officially announce it.

In other news, a claim has been made about the fee received for Jeremie Frimpong this week.
