Celtic didn’t sign a goalkeeper during the summer transfer window but a new report has stated that Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a Liverpool talent as an option down the line.

The Scottish Sun reports that the Bhoys are looking at Caoimhin Kelleher as a potential signing in a future window having enquired about his availability this summer.

It’s said that Celtic were told that Kelleher wouldn’t be moving away from Anfield as he’s needed to support first-choice shot-stopper Alisson, who has been linked with a Middle East move.

Kelleher also counts as a homegrown talent for the Reds, making his exit even more complicated. But it’s reported that the goalkeeper is keen on the idea of becoming a number-one choice at Celtic Park.

Is Caoimhin Kelleher to Celtic feasible?

He’s certainly has a high reported valuation at Anfield. It was reported by The Irish Independent earlier this year that Liverpool would want as much as £20m for his services. That would surely price Celtic out of a transfer.

However, how realistic it is for Liverpool to get that kind of cash is unknown. It would probably depend on who else is interested in the Republic of Ireland international.

The 24-year-old doesn’t have much senior football under his belt and again isn’t being sent out on loan this season. He’s made 21 appearances in total, five of which have come in the English Premier League.

A loan-to-buy deal looks most feasible for Celtic to pursue, but Liverpool will have to be ready to part with their man first. Perhaps that opportunity could arise in the January transfer window.

The Bhoys do need a long-term replacement for the 36-year-old Joe Hart, whose contract expires at Celtic at the end of the current season.
