Report: Celtic, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig want to sign Viljami Sinisalo
Celtic are interested in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo as he enters the final year of his contract, The Sunday Mail reports. [20/06 print edition, page 56]
The paper believes that cash-rich sides Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are also keen on his services. That would clearly complicate matters for the Bhoys.
Villa rate the Finnish youth international highly and are keen to extend his contract. If that happens he’ll be sent back out on loan to the English Championship or League One.
However, Celtic believe they can offer him a clearer route to first-team football given our problems in the goalkeeping position over the last 12 months.
Who is Celtic target Viljami Sinisalo?
Sinisalo joined Villa from FC Espoo in Finland back in 2018. Initially, he featured for their U23 side.
The 19-year-old got the first taste of senior football in Scotland last year with Ayr United. He helped keep 11 clean sheets in 29 appearances for the Scottish Championship club, conceding 39 goals in all competitions.
The teenager impressed at Tynecastle earlier this year, earning high praise from his manager David Hopkin, who told The Edinburgh Evening News: “He was excellent. A young goalkeeper, the longer we work with him the more we will get what I want out of him.
“Some of the saves he made were incredible.”
Sinisalo has started the last three Finnish U21 internationals, evening captaining the side against Sweden earlier this month.
This is definitely one to watch over the next couple of months. Fingers crossed we can pull off a signing coup here.
In other news, Celtic rejected £8m bid for Ryan Christie last summer.
