Celtic’s quest to sign Andraz Sporar in the January transfer window could be set to get much tougher, with The Daily Record reporting that Dynamo Kiev are preparing a £3.5m bid for the player.
Neil Lennon is on the record confirming that the striker is one of his January targets and that talks have taken place regarding his arrival (BBC Scotland).
That came after Slovakian outlet Sport24 reported that Hoops officials had travelled to Vienna to hold discussions about a multi-million-pound move.
Now though, it seems that Dynamo are ready to test the waters with an official seven-figure approach, even if it is lower than Slovan Bratislava’s asking price of more than £5m.
The Ukranian side’s season isn’t quite going to plan having already been knocked out of the Europa League. They’re also a massive 14 points adrift of league leaders Shakhtar Donetsk.
Do Celtic need him?
Sporar is certainly having an excellent season, scoring a tremendous 20 goals in 26 appearances, seven of which have come in European competition.
His Europa League group stage went exceptionally well, netting five in six games against Wolves, Besiktas and Braga. That would suggest he is more than capable of making an impact in Scottish football.

Celtic need more depth in the striking position beyond Odsonne Edouard, with Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo simply not getting the job done so far this season.
It’ll be interesting to see how Kiev’s reported attraction now plays out and whether it jolts Celtic into making a more concerted effort to get him through the door.
That it’s gotten to the stage of Lennon speaking openly about the player in press conferences would suggest we are serious about his signature.
It’s a situation to watch with interest over the next couple of weeks.
