Celtic are finalising personal terms with West Ham United striker Albian Ajeti tonight, Sky Sports reports.

The broadcaster believes that the Scottish champions have already agreed on a loan-to-buy deal with the English Premier League outfit.

It’s said the Bhoys will have the option of signing the Switzerland international for £5m at the end of the season.

Ajeti has taken some persuading to commit his future to Celtic.

Sky Sports say that Neil Lennon personally intervened to convince the player of a move to Glasgow.

The report states that a medical will now take place over the next 24 hours, following Monday meetings with the player and his agent.

Sought after by clubs in the Premier League and around Europe, this has all the hallmarks of an exciting signing.

His record of 43 goals and 21 assists in 96 appearances for Basel (Transfermarkt) by the age of 22 suggests great potential, even if things didn’t work out for him in England.

The fact that Lennon has pursued the player also gives me confidence that the manager is personally a big fan, which isn’t always a guarantee with the transfer model at Celtic Park.

Finally, the fact Ajeti had the ambition and confidence to wait out his options and seek the best move possible shows me that the player has a bit of swagger and personal pride.

There have been a few twists and turns in this signing saga, it’s not the first time he’s reported to have been set for a medical in Glasgow (STV).

So we can’t quite dream of Ajeti wearing green and white yet, but this latest report suggests things are certainly moving in the right direction.

In other news, the SFA have released a statement after a videoconference meeting involving Neil Lennon, Scott Brown and others.
