Celtic are one of the clubs that have been monitoring the progress of striker Tino Kadewere ahead of the January transfer window, as reported by The Daily Mail.
The paper say that the Scottish champions have shown interest alongside English Premier League clubs Southampton and Bournemouth, with the player valued at as much as £10m by current side Le Havre.
That obviously puts him at the upper end of our transfer capability, but having spent serious money to bring Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien to the club in recent years, it doesn’t appear to be too outlandish a prospect.
Given the season he’s having so far, he’s certainly worth a look.
How good has he been?
Although only playing in French Ligue 2, Kadewere has been in lethal form so far this term, netting a magnificent 17 goals in 19 appearances, also contributing with four assists (Transfermarkt).
It’s a vast improvement on his debut season at the French club, where he managed just six in 26 appearances.
With cash-rich clubs apparently now preparing to make their interest known, this could be Celtic’s window of opportunity when it comes to signing him.
If he goes on to have a stellar second half to 2019/20, then we could find he is suddenly out of our price range.
Celtic definitely need a striker during this transfer window and despite being linked with a number of names now, it’s unknown what kind of player Lennon is looking for.
If he’s on the hunt for a long-term Odsonne Edouard replacement, then the four-cap Zimbabwe international (Transfermarkt) is showing that kind of form.
If it’s simply a back-up option he’s looking for, then you’d think we certainly won’t be paying anything like £10m.
