Report: Celtic hold fresh talks with Charlie Wyke; he prefers Bhoys to Championship

Celtic have held fresh talks with striker Charlie Wyke over the last week, The Northern Echo has reported today.

It was reported last week that Celtic had spoken to the striker earlier this summer.

However, this latest report suggests that the Bhoys have got back in touch to make their move for the player, who is available on a free transfer.

Sources have suggested to The Echo that Wyke would prefer a move to Glasgow rather than the English Championship.

Wyke, 28, has never played above League One level but could be about to get the biggest opportunity of his career.

What to make of Celtic talks with Charlie Wyke

I’ve written on 67 Hail Hail before about my hesitation in signing Wyke. He may have had a brilliant 30-goal season last term at Sunderland, but looking at his career history, that would appear to be a one-off.

However, as long as he’s not an out and out replacement for Odsonne Edouard, it could be a shrewd move. We’d be bringing in a confident striker to perform a different role in the forward areas.

We definitely need squad options in attack.

There’s an argument we could do with a player who has more potential, or who has played at a higher level.

However, as long as we bring in the required quality in addition to Wyke then I don’t have a massive problem with his acquisition.

Everyone gets a chance once they come through the Celtic Park gates.

It increasingly looks like Wyke will be arriving in Scotland to make an impact.

In other news, Tom Rogic was scheduled for summer Celtic exit before Postecoglou appointment.
