Celtic are one of the teams interested in a move for young Montpellier attacker Thomas Robert, website Football Insider reports.
The outlet says that his future is to be determined within the next few days after his agent confirmed that he will not be staying at the Ligue 1 side beyond this summer.
Rangers and Newcastle have also been credited with an interest as well as clubs in France and Germany.
In what is perhaps encouraging news for a side like Celtic, it’s said that the 19-year-old favours the chance to play first-team football more than anything else.
His agent, Mark McKay, told Football Insider: “We have several offers from clubs in France, Germany and the UK, but Thomas wants to be playing regular first-team football wherever he ends up going.
“He refused Montpellier’s offer of a new deal as he wants to be playing first-team football and he sees that as key to his long-term development at this stage of his career.”
Thomas is the son of former French international Laurent Robert who had spells at Montpellier, Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle, amongst others.
It’s stated in the report that the teenager speaks fluent English and can play on both flanks as well as behind central strikers.
Neil Lennon could do with some depth in the attacking midfield positions, especially on the flanks, as we approach the new season.
Marian Shved looks to be on the verge of an exit and Mohamed Elyounoussi hasn’t yet committed his services to the club in 2020/21.
Utility man Jonny Hayes has also left Glasgow.
That leaves James Forrest and Mikey Johnston as the only real recognised wide players beyond youth options, though Ryan Christie has slotted in on the flanks over the last 12 months.
Robert may not be the answer as he has no senior experience but it’s an area of the team that does need to be addressed over the coming weeks.
Will Neil Lennon be signing a winger?
