Report: Celtic interested in Championship winger Bright Osayi-Samuel; competition for James Forrest
Celtic are showing interest in Queens Park Rangers winger Bright Osayi-Samuel ahead of the transfer deadline, The Daily Mail has reported on Wednesday.
The paper reckons that both the Scottish champions and Crystal Palace are keen on the 22-year-old and that QPR are even already identifying a replacement.
Website Football Insider has also reported on the interest this week, stating that the Bhoys are eyeing a pre-contract move for him in January, with the Championship club still looking for £5m prior to October 5th.
That’s a lot of money for a player with less than a year on his contract but Celtic have been known to negotiate a few bargains in their time.
Neil Lennon could do with a winger to compete with James Forrest on the right-wing, a player who has lacked genuine competition in the position for years.
Pretenders such as Marian Shved have come and gone, while youth prospects like Karamoko Dembele have failed to push their way into the manager’s plans.
Osayi-Samuel had a good Championship campaign last term, scoring six and assisting nine to help his side to a mid-table finish under manager Mark Warburton (Transfermarkt).
That bodes well for a decent impact in the Scottish Premiership, with Celtic likely to be in much better attacking positions that Osayi-Samuel could exploit, compared to QPR.
With just a few weeks left now until the end of the transfer window, the recruitment team at Celtic Park still have a bit of work to do.
Hopefully Nick Hammond can leverage a deal for a player like this, who can compete on the flanks, as well as a left-back and even another central defender.
Can the club follow up on what has been an excellent window so far?
Add Osayi-Samuel to the list of ones to watch.
