Celtic are showing interest in Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer ahead of the summer transfer window, Football League World has reported today.

The outlet believes that both Celtic and Rangers are keen on the in-form English Championship star, with Brentford, Leeds United and Norwich City all monitoring his situation.

Hamer is a Brazilian-born former Dutch youth international who has been a stand out for Coventry this term, especially in recent matches.

He has four assists in his last three appearances, producing man of the match displays against Reading and Bristol City.

A graduate of the Feyenoord system, Hamer has excellent experience at the age of 24 having played consistently for PEC Zwolle in Eredivisie before his move to the English second-tier in 2020.

With his contract expiring in 2023, it seems this summer could be a pivotal one for his long-term future as clubs look to buy into the development he’s shown over the last few years.

Celtic have plenty of midfield options at the moment but with James McCarthy not kicking on and Ismaila Soro’s long-term future at the club certainly in doubt, we could be in the market for another when the summer window opens.

One to watch over the next few months, at least.
