Celtic are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday’s teenage midfielder Liam Shaw, The Athletic has reported on Monday.
The Bhoys have been linked with a number of English-based players over the last few months including Alfie Doughty, Ben Pearson, Ben Davies and Ivan Toney.
Shaw is the latest name to be added to the list, though the extent of the interest is not clear.
The 19-year-old is highly rated at the Owls. His contract expires this summer but the club are currently in discussions with his agent about extending those terms [Sheffield Star].
Celtic’s interest has a chance to complicate matters now. If the Bhoys are truly keen, they could look to sign him up on a pre-contract basis. That would see them away with only paying Sheffield Wednesday compensation money.
Shaw burst into the first-team set-up at Hillsborough on a regular basis this season and has been winning plaudits for his performances.
His assist in the FA Cup earlier this month, which you can see on Twitter, is a must-watch.

Liam Shaw to Celtic?
It’s still early days in his development – he’s only played 18 senior games in his career. If the footage above is an indication of his ability then he’s definitely worth sounding out.
There are challenges involved to convince him to make the switch to Glasgow. Wednesday will be desperate to hold on to the prospect, and he is a boyhood fan of the club.
Celtic aren’t exactly needing midfielders at the moment either, so first-team football isn’t a guarantee.

However, with Scott Brown in the twilight of his career and Olivier Ntcham edging closer to a Celtic Park exit, snapping up a prospect such as Shaw isn’t the worst idea in the world.
