Celtic have made an approach to the representatives of Premier League attacker Ryan Fraser to sound out his interest about a move back to the Scottish Premiership, website Read Celtic exclusively reports.
The outlet, citing a source close to the situation, believes that the Scottish champions are willing to make him the highest-paid player at the club.
Fraser is soon to be out of contract and has indicated he is going to leave Bournemouth for a new challenge.
Ordinarily, a winger of his quality would be out of reach due to the inflated market in England but, available on a free transfer, it makes perfect sense that Celtic would at least enquire about his availability.
Unfortunately, the report goes on to state that the player sees his future in the English top-flight, hoping to sign for a team that will be involved in European competition.
Fraser started his career at Aberdeen but has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Cherries, rising with them from the Championship into the Premier League.
His most successful season on the big stage came in 2018/19 when he scored seven top-flight goals and assisted 14 more in the Premier League (Transfermarkt), marking him out as one of the most effective attackers in the division outside of the top six.
Clearly that kind of quality would have fit in well at Celtic.
As an 11-cap Scotland international he still has ties to the country but may have some cash-rich clubs chasing his services this summer, so it’s not much of a surprise to hear he would prefer a stay in England.
