Celtic have contacted Philadelphia Union and asked to be kept informed of any transfer developments involving Mark McKenzie, Sky Sports reported on Friday night.
It’s not the first time during the current transfer window that Celtic have been linked with the 21-year-old.
The Daily Record reported in July that the Bhoys had been scouting the Major League Soccer star, who they said could be available for a bargain six-figure fee.
Sky Sports’ latest report indicates that Celtic are now stepping up their interest, asking about the player’s situation and looking to be in the loop on his future.

It’s also stated by the broadcaster that McKenzie is keen on a Union exit to pursue a career in Europe.
Celtic have obviously just completed the signing of Shane Duffy on loan but after the departures of Jozo Simunovic and Jack Hendry arguably need more defensive depth.
Lennon has Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed to call upon beyond his regular starters, but it could be a good time to bring in a talented youngster who can learn his trade alongside experienced operators such as Duffy and Chris Jullien.
Succession planning is important in the position, especially with the future of Kristoffer Ajer in doubt.

McKenzie is already earning international recognition having won his first United States national team cap back in February.
He’s made 44 appearances in total for Philly and is a valued member of their first-team, starting all but one of their matches during the 2020 season so far.
Apparently available at the right price, he could be a shrewd acquisition ahead of October’s deadline.
In other news, Chris Sutton has raised doubts about Celtic captain Scott Brown.
