Report: Celtic make contact with West Ham about signing striker Albian Ajeti
Celtic are interested in signing West Ham United striker Albian Ajeti this summer, Sky Sports reports this week.
The outlet believes that the Bhoys were keen on the player last year before he made an £8m switch from Basel to the Premier League.
Priced out of a move then by the Hammers, Celtic have now made enquiries with the top-flight side about signing the player after a difficult season in England.
He’s made just nine league appearances throughout 2019/20, all of which have been from the bench.
Celtic are said to be open to a permanent or a loan move for the 23-year-old.
Ajeti had a pretty strong record at Basel prior to leaving, scoring 43 goals and assisting 21 times in 96 senior appearances (Transfermarkt).
With experience in UEFA competition and having won ten caps with the Swiss national team, he was certainly a rising star on the continent before his struggles last term.
That’s the kind of profile that is of obvious interest to Celtic.
Mohamed Elyounoussi and Fraser Forster have demonstrated over the last 12 months that just because it isn’t necessarily working out in the Premier League, it doesn’t mean someone can’t be a big success at the Scottish champions.
With Leigh Griffiths struggling for fitness, manager Neil Lennon is lacking depth beyond first-choice star Odsonne Edouard.
Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Bayo are both available neither have yet proven themselves in Glasgow.
Adding a player like Ajeti would certainly be a welcome bit of business.
