Yosuke Ideguchi could be on his way out of Celtic to sign for J-League side Avispa Fukuoka, Japanese outlet Sponichi reported this evening.

The report states that the move will be on a loan basis and that negotiations are reaching a conclusion.

Ideguchi has been on the outside looking in for most of his time at the Bhoys after arriving in the January 2022 winter transfer window alongside Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate. His contract in Scotland doesn’t expire until 2026.

He hasn’t made a single competitive appearance for the Bhoys this season and the chances of him becoming a trusted member of Ange Postecoglou’s squad are increasingly slim.

The 26-year-old was born in Fukuoka so this would be a homecoming and the loan would give him a chance to kickstart his career again after another difficult spell in European football.

Avispa finished 14th in the Japanese top-flight last season and will be hoping Ideguchi can find the form that made him a popular member of the Gamba Osaka squad.

Celtic well stocked in midfield without Ideguchi

J-League MVP Tomoki Iwata’s arrival in January signalled that Postecoglou was moving on from both Ideguchi and Oliver Abildgaard in his Celtic midfielder.

Iwata has a task of his own to break into the Bhoys line-up on a consistent basis with Callum McGregor, Aaron Mooy, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and David Turnbull all getting minutes from the start or from the bench in matches.

If Ideguchi’s loan goes through, Postecoglou clearly feels he has sufficient cover between now and the end of the season, allowing the midfielder to get the playing time he’ll undoubtedly want.

In other news, Celtic could be about to hit another level under Ange Postecoglou.
