Celtic are looking into what it would take to sign goalkeeper Fraser Forster permanently from Southampton, The Scottish Sun reports tonight.
The club have previously been in discussions about extending his season-long loan into the 2020/21 campaign but are now changing up discussions and pursuing an outright transfer move.
With Southampton looking to cut costs, club negotiators at Celtic have been ramping up talks with the English Premier League side over the last week, the report states.
Forster is said to be Neil Lennon’s number one priority despite the agents of Joe Hart putting the former Manchester City man’s name forward to the Scottish champions.
Mohamed Elyounoussi is also named as part of the current discussions between the two clubs.
Olivier Ntcham is a player that interests Southampton but The Scottish Sun report that it’s not yet clear if he would be part of any deal.
Obviously retaining Forster’s services would be absolutely brilliant for Celtic this summer, as would signing up Elyounoussi for another season.
Both players have shown real quality over the last 12 months with Forster in particular shining on big occasions, most notably against Lazio and Rangers in crucial encounters.
Continuity between seasons could be absolutely vital in our push for ten-in-a-row, especially during these uncertain pandemic times when the transfer market could be unpredictable and difficult to navigate.
Can Celtic close out this double deal with Southampton and make supporters very happy indeed ahead of our August season kick-off?
