Celtic sent scouts to a recent Scotland U17s game to check on Queen’s Park talent Reagan Thomson, The Daily Record report.

Still just 16 years old, the Hoops were one of a number of clubs in attendance watching the youngster, with Rangers and Newcastle notably named in the report.

The Magpies appear favourites to sign him, with the paper believing they are closing in on agreeing a substantial deal to have him switch in the upcoming January transfer window.

The teenager was in excellent form during the scouted match, assisting twice as Scotland beat Iceland 2-1, helping them progress to the next stage of U17s Euros qualifying.

He’s made eight senior appearances for the Spiders so far this season despite his young age and apparently has the kind of talent to interest big clubs north and south of the border.

The Hoops have made recruitment of teenagers a real priority in recent months, hoovering up a number of talents from English club academies during the summer transfer window.

It’s been a sound strategy so far, with Jeremie Frimpong making a notable impact in the first-team.

Thomson would have obviously been a long way away from making that kind of impression, but clearly we’re not letting up in our search of talent that can bolster our development squads.
