Celtic have a set an asking price of £12m for defender Kristoffer Ajer, Goal has reported on Friday night.

The outlet believes that Ligue 1 side Nice are one of the teams interested in his signature this January.

Previously, he has been heavily linked to AC Milan.

Brazilian defender Dante suffered a cruciate ligament injury in November, meaning Nice are on the lookout for a new defender. Ajer fits their criteria, Goal say.

His Celtic situation

Ajer has just over 18 months left on his contract at Celtic. There may be a realistic financial decision that needs to be made next month, despite our trophy chase.

The club have so far been resolute in the face of transfer interest throughout 2020.

Big players such as Olivier Ntcham, Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie have all remained at the club.

It was reported by Sky Sports back in August that Ajer was one of the players potentially seeking an exit from Celtic Park.

The broadcaster reported that the Norwegian’s agent had asked for his valuation in an attempt to attract buyers.

What should Celtic do?

Ajer was signed during the Ronny Deila days after a successful trial at Lennoxtown.

Since then he’s emerged as a first-team regular in the centre-half position. Recently he’s been deployed as a right-back, winning plaudits for his performances.

If I had my way, as a Celtic fan, the defender wouldn’t be sold before the end of the season.

The Norwegian international has been one of our better performers of late. To weaken Neil Lennon’s squad while we have a points deficit at the top of the table would be a bad move on the board’s part.

He also has a versatility that could be very useful between now and May.

Ultimately it seems likely he will be leaving Celtic one day soon. Don’t bite in January.

In other news, Celtic are set to receive a £1.67m loan from the Scottish Government.
