Celtic look to be edging closer to the signing of Montreal FC defender Alistair Johnston, with a fee now being reported in the Scottish media.
According to the Daily Record, the Canadian international will be on his way to Parkhead after both parties negotiated a deal in the region of £3 million.
Having agreed terms with the MLS side, there aren’t expected to be any issues with securing a work permit for Johnston, thanks to the right back having a UK passport through his mother, which is a huge hurdle Celtic has been able to avoid.

The 24-year-old is currently starring at the World Cup in Qatar, starting in both his nation’s games against Belgium and Croatia.
On Sunday evening, Johnston went up against a potential future Celtic teammate and the man he could be replacing in the future, Josip Juranovic, who started for Croatia.
Despite two somewhat positive displays in the middle east, it has unfortunately ended in disappointment for Johnston and Canada, who have been eliminated from the tournament.
However, it has been a fantastic opportunity for the defender and his teammates to display their quality at one of the world’s biggest tournaments, watched by millions around the globe.
Following the conclusion of Canada’s match against Morocco on Thursday afternoon, Johnston will head back to his club in preparation for the second half of the campaign.
However, it is looking increasingly likely that destination will be Glasgow, with a fee being agreed between both parties and only the final touches needed to see this deal over the line.

Johnston edges closer to Celtic move as fee is revealed.
With Celtic moving quickly to make the deal happen, you would imagine Johnston will see out the World Cup before all the paperwork is officially signed.
However, on paper, it looks like another astute piece of business conducted by Ange Postecoglou and his recruitment staff.
After a strong showing at the World Cup, more attention might have come Johnston’s way later down the line in the January window.
But, the Hoops have clearly had their eye on the Canadian and have negotiated a deal that will see him come to Parkhead for around £3 million, if reports are to be believed.
It is also great to hear that there will be no issues with the work permit when bringing Johnston to the club, and the move should go through smoothly.
Celtic now look to be edging closer to their second signing of the January window, and we haven’t even entered December just yet. Exciting times!
