Celtic talks to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis are at an ‘advanced’ stage, American outlet SBI Soccer has reported today.
USA-based journalist Larry Henry Jr has always been at the forefront of reporting around Carter-Vickers and Celtic.
Indeed, he was consistent in his belief that Celtic were in the race to sign him all last summer as it went to deadline day.
It’s said that teams in England are still interested in his services but that Celtic remain very happy with the defender and that discussions have progressed.
The Bhoys have always had a fee agreed with Tottenham Hotspur as part of his season-long loan move. However, it hinges on the player agreeing that his future lies in Glasgow.
Many have suggested the title win and potential of UEFA Champions League football will be crucial in helping to convince him of that. And in convincing Celtic to spend the money.
The new Champions League format & what it will mean for Celtic
Manager Ange Postecoglou has made it clear on multiple occasions that he’d like Carter-Vickers to stay but that he is not in the business of convincing anyone to be at Celtic if they don’t want to be.
Supporters have really taken to Carter-Vickers since arriving on loan from Spurs. He’s been a powerhouse in the heart of the defence, helping the team attain the best defensive record in the league.
His partnership with Carl Starfelt continues to improve and develop too. Getting a full pre-season with Postecoglou and further getting to grips with what we need from his passing game could see him have an even better 2022/23 campaign.
I’m all for the club pushing this over the line.
