Report: Celtic target Jamal Lowe missing from weekend match squad
Summer Celtic target Jamal Lowe didn’t play for Wigan in a closed-door friendly this weekend despite other first-team stars being involved, Portsmouth News have reported.
In July, the Bhoys were reported by The Daily Mail to have a ‘big interest’ in the winger, alongside Cardiff City and Millwall.
More recently Swansea City have been in the hunt for his signature, having a bid for the player rejected last week.
It was reported by Wigan Today that this was due to Wigan still owing Portsmouth money after signing Lowe last year, meaning administrators couldn’t sanction a six-figure bid that would effectively leave the Latics out of pocket.
However, it seems that if the right offer is received his exit is inevitable.
Portsmouth News now say he is moving closer to the exit door after not being involved in their pre-season preparations this weekend.
Celtic still need to bring in extra cover on the wings.
Lennon benched James Forrest yesterday and could only bring in Ryan Christie on the right flank, a player more suited to playing through the middle.
With Mikey Johnston injured and Karamoko Dembele still not quite trusted to start games, the manager needs more options.
Lowe has scored six goals and assisted five more in English Championship action over the last 12 months, featuring in all 46 of Wigan’s league matches.
That is not exactly the most inspiring of records but it’s a tough league and in an attacking team like Celtic, he could thrive.
His 2018/19 season in League One was more impressive, scoring 15 goals and assisting nine with Portsmouth (Transfermarkt).
Will Celtic take a chance on the 26-year-old or are we hunting for a player with a more impressive profile?
