Celtic are interested in signing Scottish Championship defender Jamie Hamilton, TEAMtalk has reported today.
Hamilton, who plays for… Hamilton… is just 19-years-old and has been included in recent Scotland U21 squads.
TEAMtalk believes that Celtic, Hibernian and Aberdeen are all eager to sign him up – with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
However, a number of teams in England, including Liverpool and Newcastle, are all tracking his situation.
Hamilton has made 64 appearances in total for Accies, 34 of which have come in the Scottish top-flight. So he already has experience in our league, even against Celtic.
He may not be a direct upgrade on any of our central defensive options, including Stephen Welsh, but as a signing for the future, there seems little harm in pursuing him.

It wouldn’t take a transfer fee to bring him to Celtic Park, for starters. If he can come in and compete for a starting berth over time, that’d be fine.
If big clubs in England are truly taking notice of him, as reported, it’d be better to sign him up early in his career, before he either becomes a hit down south and too expensive, or gets lost in their lower leagues.
It’s at least another player’s situation to watch over the next couple of weeks as a busy January for Celtic rumbles on.
