Celtic are interested in signing Liam Moore before October’s transfer deadline, The Daily Record has reported this weekend.

The paper say that Neil Lennon has added the Reading captain to a shortlist of defensive options while the club continue a pursuit of Brighton centre-half Shane Duffy.

Moore, 27, is an experienced operator and has amassed close to 230 appearances in the English Championship, with a bit of experience in the Premier League with Leicester City too (Transfermarkt).

He’s clearly a player valued for his leadership qualities at the Royals and would be a serious addition to the dressing room at Celtic Park.

The Bhoys need to add a bit of depth to Lennon’s defensive options after the departure of Jozo Simunovic.

The manager currently has Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer available, with midfielder Nir Bitton also preferred in the defensive line recently.

Hatem Abd Elhamed can also slot in but is more comfortable on the right flank.

Like me, I reckon most Celtic supporters would prefer a Duffy arrival at Celtic Park, but with multiple Premier League clubs also said to be keen on his services that might just prove to be beyond our financial reach.

It’s important the Celtic recruitment team have a back-up option and Moore is a viable candidate to come in and play a big role in the squad.

The player is certainly one to keep an eye on over the coming weeks as Lennon attempts to finalise his squad for a European and title push.

In other news, the manager has acknowledged that a switch to a two-striker formation could help Odsonne Edouard.
