FC Midtjylland’s interest in Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis could be impacted by the Hoops asking price, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Parkhead in recent weeks, with suggestions that talk of a new contract broke down.

Giakoumakis and his representative are now believed to be considering their options with the January transfer window open.

Unnamed clubs from Europe and Saudi Araba have reportedly been monitoring the forward’s current situation as they eye up a potential move.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that Danish side FC Midtjylland were one of the first clubs to make a transfer approach for Giakoumakis.

The Europa League side knew any move for the Greek international would be difficult, but they made the important first steps in an attempt to prize him away from Parkhead.

However, according to a report from the Daily Record, Midtjylland’s ambitious move for the Celtic striker could be impacted by the Hoops asking price.

The report from journalist Scott Burns states that the Danish side has £5 million to spend on a new striker. With a number of other striking options on their list, they could choose to pull out any race for Giakoumakis.

Although as of yet, no official asking price for the Celtic number seven has been reported, it is believed that the Bhoys are aiming to make a decent profit on the £2.5 million paid for the striker in the summer of 2021.

More interest in Giakoumakis likely to arise as window goes on.

It might have felt like the January transfer window has been open for quite some time now, given that Celtic have already made three signings. However, officially, we are only five days in.

So with around 26 days of the window left, you would imagine that there will be plenty more interest in Giakoumakis as the month goes on.

As mentioned, no asking price for Giakoumakis has officially been reported. However, Celtic find themselves in a good position to negotiate should the Greek international want to exit during the window.

The striker’s current deal runs until 2026 and having scored 25 goals in 55 games for the Hoops, clubs will certainly be keeping a close eye on his situation.

So Midtjylland are likely the first of many clubs who will be approaching Giakoumakis and his representatives regarding a potential move this winter.

It should certainly be interesting to see where this one goes and if the Danish side chooses not to pursue the forward.
