Goalkeeper Fraser Forster would be keen to make a permanent switch to Celtic on the back of his current loan deal at the club, The Scottish Sun report.
The shot-stopper has quickly established himself as the number one choice between sticks for the Hoops. Making crucial saves and providing a real presence that aids the defensive line, on current form he looks undroppable.
As we know, his time at the club could be limited. His loan at the club will expire at the end of the season.
After his latest comments however, there is hope that he could stay for much longer.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Forster said of his situation: “It’s so early in the season, but for me, I’d never ever say no to Celtic. It’s just the relationship I have with everyone here — the fans, people within the club and the coaching staff.
“That was the big thing for me in the summer when I had to get back out and get back playing.
“I wanted to go somewhere where I felt wanted. I’ve not had that for a long time.”
Subsequently admitting that any move is essentially out of his hands, especially at this stage of the season, just how feasible is striking a deal with Southampton?
Can Celtic pull this off?
One of the main barriers to a permanent move for Forster could be the player’s wages.
According to Spotrac he earns a massive£70,000-a-week on a deal that runs until 2022. As much as the 31-year-old is enjoying his time in Scotland, would he be willing to take a big wage cut to fall into our pay structure?
Given his form in the Scottish Premiership and Europa League so far this season, Saints might also be unwilling to part with him unless it’s for a significant fee. Forster joined Southampton back in 2014 for a fee of around £10m (BBC).
The player’s comments are certainly encouraging. However, as he notes, it’s still far too early in the season for any of the three parties to commit to anything.
