Report: Inter Milan considering move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard
Inter Milan could make a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this summer if they sell one of their key stars, according to Calciomercato.
Edouard is into the final year of his contract at Celtic, and has been linked with the likes of Leicester and Arsenal [The Sun]. Despite a poor season, the Frenchman has also managed to rack up 22 goals in all competitions [Transfermarkt].
And as the interest hots up, newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter are said to have entered the race for Eddy. Calciomercato believes that Inter have been obtaining information on the player in recent times. However, they believe a move will only be made if a player such as Lautaro Martinez or Alexis Sanchez departs.
The Italian outlet also claims that Leicester remain the frontrunners to sign the Celtic man. AC Milan, meanwhile, are also said to have taken note of his talents but have yet to come forward with an offer.
Edouard has shown no indication that he’ll be signing a new contract at Parkhead. With a monumental summer rebuild on the cards, the Frenchman looks like one of the first to go.
Inter Milan reportedly want Celtic star; can only be good for his valuation
As the race for Edouard’s signature hots up, the less likely it looks that we’re keeping him. Many of us have resigned ourselves to the fact he’ll be off at some stage this summer. However, the sooner we get something sorted the better.
Unfortunately, Celtic were let down by his performance in the under-21 European Championships this summer. Edouard’s France were knocked out in the quarter-finals by the Netherlands on Monday. With Eddy putting in an anonymous performance, it robbed us of the chance to drum up his valuation.
That’s why constant interest from as many clubs as possible is key. That’s a useful tool for Celtic in off-setting Edouard’s poor Euro campaign. The bigger and more widespread the interest, the more we can charge for his sale.
It’s been reported in the past that the Hoops want as much as £20million for the Frenchman [Daily Record]. That sounds about right given his current situation. If a poor season can still see a striker rack up over 20 goals, he’s a valuable commodity.
Regardless, Celtic need as much as we can nab for Edouard. With the scale of rebuild we have over the course of the summer, it’s essential we make the most of his departure.
That’s why Inter’s reported interest is good news. Hopefully, it encourages other parties to stump up Celtic’s valuation of the player.
