Celtic striking prospect Jack Aitchison is set for a loan move to English League Two side Forest Green Rovers, according to The Daily Record (02/09 live transfer page, 15:55).

The 19-year-old is said to be joining on a temporary basis initially until January as he looks to get more senior first-team appearances under his belt.

The teenager spent spells out on loan to Dumbarton and Alloa Athletic last season. However, he failed to make the kind of impact that would suggest he is ready for more Celtic action.

He famously became the Hoops’ youngest ever goalscorer at the age of 16 in Ronny Deila’s last match as Celtic manager.

Since then though he’s only made a further two senior appearances. There is currently no chance of breaking into Neil Lennon’s team. Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo are all heavily involved at the moment.

A good move?

Forest Green will be making a push towards the top end of the League Two table this season. It could be a great opportunity for Aitchison to show what he can when getting a consistent run in an ambitious side.

The club currently have ten points to their name after six matches, four points behind league leaders Exeter City.

The Scotland U19s international has likely learned all he can from development and reserve matches.

His contract doesn’t expire until 2021 so he still has time to leave and return to make a fresh attempt at impressing Celtic coaches.

Hopefully he does well if the move is confirmed as having been completed.
