Celtic winger Karamoko Dembele has been linked with a move to French Ligue 1 side Brest, according to a report from French media outlet FootMercato.

The 19-year-old came through the Lennoxtown academy and was highly regarded from a very young age amongst the Hoops youth levels.

However, it looks as though he could be on his way with Foot Marcato reporting that Brest are taking an interest in signing the player, whose contract is up this summer.

After signing his first professional contract with the club at the end of 2018, the winger went on to make his debut in the final league game of the season during the 2018/19 campaign. His debut performance under Neil Lennon also led to the youngster being named as a substitute in the Scottish Cup final during that same season, leaving many fans excited at what the future may hold for the winger.

However, since his first game for the Hoops, Dembele has only gone on to make a further nine appearances, all coming as a substitute.

The youngster struggled to make the breakthrough in Lennon’s side. But, with the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, many fans believed now was the chance for him to kick on.

Karamoko Dembele couldn’t break through last season

Postecoglou handed Dembele several appearances during pre-season last year. However, the right-winger was unfortunate to be on the end of a nasty tackle in one of the final friendly fixtures, which resulted in a lengthy lag-off.

On his return from injury, the academy graduate made a couple of appearances for Postecoglou’s first team. But, most of his game time came for the young Celtic B side.

With his contract coming to an end, there has been much speculation surrounding Dembele’s future at Parkhead and whether he would sign fresh terms with the club.

The young winger was once regarded as one of the best talents in European Football. However, if he chooses to leave Celtic Park, his options may not be as attractive as they once were due to injuries and lack of game time.

Nevertheless, a move to play in the top flight of French football would undoubtedly be an intriguing option for Dembele, should he receive the guarantees of first-team football.

Going into this summer, there was still some hope that Celtic could keep a hold of the talented wideman.

As time progresses, the likelihood of that seems more unlikely, and Dembele will now be considering his options ahead of his next step during the transfer window.
