Celtic were priced out of a move for Liverpool talent Harry Wilson, The Glasgow Times reports.
One of the more exciting early deadline day rumours was a potential loan deal for the attacker.
The Scottish Sun reported that the Scottish champions had enquired about the availability of Wilson after a permanent transfer to Burnley fell through last week.
However, Liverpool are still looking for a fee of at least £15m for his services and sources close to the player have told The Glasgow Times that his wage demands would’ve also been prohibitive for the Bhoys.
The Reds were not willing to budge from the stance of seeking a permanent sale, the report states.
They received no late offers for the player, and he will remain a part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad until January at least unless loaned to the English Championship in the coming days.
Celtic have actually tried to sign Wilson before, in 2017.
The Liverpool Echo reported back then that the Reds similarly rejected a loan approach from the Scottish champions.
He’s clearly a player well-liked at Celtic Park, and for a good reason.
Wilson has already spent two successful loan spells at Derby County and Bournemouth in recent years, scoring 25 goals across two seasons in the Championship and Premier League.
Also a Welsh national team regular, earning 17 caps, he’d have been an exciting addition to Neil Lennon’s wing options.
As it stands, Celtic will move forward with James Forrest, Mohamed Elyounoussi and a variety of younger talents in the wide areas.
In other news, it’s been confirmed Diego Laxalt will be eligible to play against AC Milan in the UEFA Europa League.
