Celtic winger Scott Sinclair looks to be on the verge of an exit from the club after getting permission to talk to Preston North End, The Daily Record report.

The paper believes that the player has flown home from Dubai, where Neil Lennon’s squad are based this week, to take part in signing discussions with the English Championship side.

Other clubs are said to be keen on his services, but it’s Preston who have made an official approach to Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.

No fee or financial details are mentioned in the report, but since there are less than six months left on his contract and the fact he’s barely been involved in the first-team, you’d imagine the Scottish champions will simply be happy to get him off the wage bill.

It seems to be part of a constructive January for the Hoops, who could with moving on more deadwood in the squad and signing two or three quality first-team players.

Sinclair will be fondly remembered for Celtic contributions

Although there’s no doubt his star has waned at Celtic Park over the last 18 months, Sinclair will likely always be well-liked by supporters for his unbelievable contribution during the 2016/17 ‘Invincibles’ season.

The attacker netted a brilliant 25 goals during that campaign, also registering 13 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt). It’s a return that was absolutely crucial, with many feeling Sinclair was the stand-out player in one of our greatest ever domestic seasons.

He scored 60 goals in total during the ‘treble treble’ years, more than anyone else in a Celtic shirt in that time.

By the time Lennon came into the club, it became clear he wasn’t quite operating at that level anymore, though calls from some fans to include him more in first-team action have persisted this season.

It seems like the right time for all involved for the wide-man to move on, but he’s already written himself an impressive Celtic story and I hope he does well wherever he ends up.

A motivated and fit Sinclair can be something to behold.
