Vasilis Barkas could make his Celtic debut as early as Sunday if the finalisation of his transfer all goes to plan this week, The Scottish Sun reports.

The paper says that the goalkeeper is waiting on the green light to travel to the UK and complete his medical, potentially being thrust into Neil Lennon’s team this weekend.

Barkas is reported to be joining Celtic in a £5.4m deal, comprised of an initial £4.5m and £900,000 in bonus payments to AEK.

A 10% sell-on clause has also been inserted into the transfer.

The 26-year-old is a ten-cap Greek international and has made over 100 club appearances in all competitions, including the Champions League group stages.

He was actually part of the side that knocked Brendan Rodgers’ team out of qualifying in 2018 and it seems he may not be waiting long to play again at Celtic Park.

The Bhoys play Hamilton on Sunday afternoon and although Scott Bain has been installed as a number one choice throughout pre-season, could Barkas come straight into contention?

You may remember that Lennon didn’t waste much time with Fraser Forster last summer.

The Southampton man signed on loan on 22nd August and started against Hearts two days later.

Meanwhile, Celtic are closing in on a second transfer this week.

Broadcaster STV are reporting this afternoon that West Ham United striker Albian Ajeti is about to travel to complete a medical too, potentially joining on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

Having had an impressive spell at Basel, he moved to the Premier League last summer but has failed to make an impact.

Now the Scottish champions are set to try and rejuvenate the 23-year-old’s career.

The duo would become Celtic’s second and third signings of the summer after the completed loan deal for Mohamed Elyounoussi earlier this month.

In other news, Celtic have announced record-breaking season ticket sales.
