If Kieran Tierney does leave Celtic in the next 48 hours, reports claim that the Hoops have already identified a replacement.
The Sun have reported that Brentford’s Rico Henry is the player to replace Tierney. The report goes on to claim that the Championship side would be looking for around £7 million for the player.
Henry would be a good addition to the Hoops squad, however, he made only 16 appearances for Brentford last season.
Fee could be too big
Perhaps the most puzzling aspect of Celtic’s interest is the reported fee – would the Hoops really spend £7 million on a left-back when they already spent big on one this summer?
Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo was signed earlier this summer for a reported fee of £3 million. He at the moment looks to be Celtic’s first choice left-back.
Left-back cover is already at club
Would the Hoops then add another expensive left-back should Tierney leave? Perhaps not. The Hoops already have another left-back on the books in Jonny Hayes.
If Tierney does leave Celtic the Hoops might well buy another left-back. However, it would be a surprise if they spent £7 million on a player who made less than 20 appearances last season.
There will be better value for money in the transfer market you would have to think. It just doesn’t seem realistic that the Hoops would spend so much money on a position they have already spent big in this summer.
