Celtic could be on the verge of making another big signing if reports are correct. The Daily Mail, as cited by the Daily Record, are reporting that the Hoops are considering a £6 million move for Lech Poznan’s Robert Gumny.

Should the reports be correct, then the Hoops would have spent over £15 million on defenders this summer. However, the report doesn’t really make much sense.

Hoops only recently signed a right-back

The Hoops have only recently signed a right-back – Hatem Abd Elhamed. He might have only played two games for the club, but he has shown that he could be a worthy successor to Mikael Lustig.

Obviously the Hoops need to sign another right-back to provide competition to Elhamed. At the moment, Anthony Ralston is the only other right-back at the club, and he seems out of favour.

Does domestic option make more sense?

Spending £6 million on a right-back does seem to be a bit of a risk. Celtic would perhaps be better off signing a player like Kilmarnock’s Stephen O’Donnell, who could hit the ground running and wouldn’t need time to get to grips with the Scottish game.

It is always a good thing when Celtic are considering a big signing. It is something the club should have done far more of in recent seasons. However, the reported move for Gumny just doesn’t make that much sense at the moment.

However, should the Hoops sign the player, he will get nothing but support from the Hoops fans.
