Reported Celtic offer for teenager confirms transfer policy is continuing

Celtic seem to have started a new transfer policy over the last few months. The Hoops have made a few ‘big’ purchases, like Christopher Jullien and Boli Bolingoli.

However, the Hoops have also brought in a host of talented teenagers. The likes of Jonathan Afolabi, Luca Connell, Lee O’Connor and Jeremie Frimpong have signed long-term deals with the clubs.

Now if a recent report is to be believed, the Hoops look set to continue that policy. The Scottish Sun reported on Tuesday that the Hoops were one of a number of teams interested in signing Bruno Davidson, who is a winger who is 15 and plays for Edinburgh side Hutchison Vale.

The report goes on to say that Southampton and Wolves are also interested in the player, and that the Hoops and Sunderland have already made an offer for the player. It is too early to know if the starlet will move to the Hoops.

If he does though, it will be a continuation of the recent transfer policy. It can be argued that the policy is paying off already thanks to the first-team breakthrough of Jeremie Frimpong.

Few people would have expected Frimpong to make his breakthrough to the first-team in the first few months of his time at the club.

However, that is what has happened. He has looked comfortable in the Celtic first-team. He shone in the recent 4-0 victory over Aberdeen.

Frimpong’s success could well lead to more players at the start of their careers deciding to join Celtic. That could be what makes a player like Davidson decide to sign for the Hoops.

Celtic’s policy of signing young players might not always fully work. There will be players who don’t make it into the first-team.

However, as long as a player every so often makes the breakthrough to the first-team then it is a policy worth persevering with.
