In recent weeks, Celtic have been linked with moves for multiple strikers as manager Neil Lennon attempts to bolster his attacking options.
Assistant manager John Kennedy even told Sky Sports this week that the club are looking to bring in a forward ‘as quickly as possible’, highlighting the urgency with which Celtic are trying to recruit in the position.
One of the names in the mix over the last few days has been Billy Sharp of Sheffield United.
The Sunday Post reported yesterday he is one player we are considering as a back-up option to Odsonne Edouard and another forward.
The prolific striker is struggling for game time this season after spearheading the Blade’s promotion bid last term.
However, it appears he’s more than happy to continue at his boyhood club, at least until the end of the season. That’s what manager Chris Wilder told reporters over the weekend anyway.
As quoted by The Yorkshire Post, he said of the player’s situation and reported interest: “With Billy, it is understandable.
“I would be looking at him if I was not here. I have always been very consistent with the message that until Billy comes to me and says he has to play regular first-team football, then he will be here. And he hasn’t.
“We have had calls from people and enquiries. I am open and honest. I have told Billy this club has come in for him and that club comes in for him. But he has always said ‘no’, and that he wants to stay here until at least the end of the season.”

Celtic need committed, hungry players
I have no problem with Lennon signing up some experienced pros on a short-term basis to help us in the second half of the season, but anyone arriving in Glasgow must have genuine desire to prove a point at Celtic.
We can’t have players who’ve left their hearts in Sheffield for example. If Sharp feels he has unfinished business in Wilder’s squad then we shouldn’t be going out of our way to convince him to move to Scotland too much.
Adding a committed, hungry star to the attack would be ideal this month, so hopefully we have other targets lined up ready to come in before we return from the winter break.
An extra goal boost could be just the ticket in our upcoming trophy chase.
